The film is based on World War II novel by Sebastian Faulks. It follows Cate's title character, a young Scottish heroine, as she joins the French resistance to find her lover, an British pilot, was shot down in France. Along the way, she meets a French resistance fighter played by Billy Crudup. Gillian Armstrong directs.
